  • a really cute dog
  • me: a michael s. smith-designed bedroom

  • Saidi: an army of staff not really at her disposal
  • a literal army, also not at her disposal

  • Saidi: correction: women everywhere

It’s that time of year again! Yes, it is New York Fashion Week.  Sitting in my dorm room in Tucson, Arizona seems to be to be the antithesis NYC Fashion Week, but that doesn’t mean that I still can’t participate!  I am checking my Twitter page very frequently so I can get updated on all the NYFW news, and of course, Vogue.com will be typed into my web address bar a few more times than usual.  I’m brushing up on my outfit analysis skills so I can prepare to scrutinize all the pictures I will be looking at, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on new designers who I have yet to discover. So, posts containing my favorite shows, and particular looks are to come.  Next year I just may have to play hooky and plan a trip to the city.

I am mildly obsessed with the idea of my future living space.  I day dream about what I want my studio apartment in New York City to look like on a daily basis. Maybe even on an hourly basis.  I browse the internet looking for the right headboard or duvet cover, and I have already started to collect clippings from magazines and newspapers about interior designs I like.  So, if anyone else shares this same interest, here is a link to a blog I guarantee you will love.

I just finished reading the book The Kitchen Counter Cooking School, and I cannot say enough great things about it! If you have ever struggled with the idea of cooking, or feel intimated by recipes, or just have no idea how to cook ( I pretty much described myself) then I would highly recommend picking up this book.  Since finishing the book, cooking seems so less scary, and I now want to make a meal from scratch!  The book is loaded with helpful tips, and great recipes, and the story is a great read too!

Just discovered Rifle Paper Co.  All of the stationery is absolutely adorable.  Browse the website, and you will be enamored with everything they make!

With the start of the new year I thought I would take some time to look back on 2011 and think about the best books I read, my favorite places I visited, the delicious food I ate, and anything else random that deserves to be mentioned. So this is a “best of 2011” feature.

Best Books (no particular order):

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, In The Time of the Butterflies, Maine, Commencement, The Bell Jar, Girl With a Pearl Earing

Favorite Places I visited:

Everywhere I went when I visited DC in November, Taliesin West ( I haven’t been since I was 12, and I came away with a greater appreciation for architecture, and a curiosity to learn more about FLW), Telluride, Neuschwanstein (just thinking about it still gives me a WOW feeling

Memorable Meals:

Coq a vin ( I had this fancy French dish for the first time this year, and it was deeelish,) My cooking (I didn’t do a lot, so there is not too much to remember, but I made a lot of progress with my cooking and baking skills this year, so this is a shout out to myself,) Dinner with Paul’s host family in Switzerland (I will remember this meal for eternity, best food of my life).

Best Movies:

50/50, The Help, Like Crazy, Clueless (just saw it this year…. I know, I don’t know why it took me so long either) Bill Cunningham New York ( if you didn’t follow through with my recommendation the first time, do it now,)  Midnight in Paris

Best TV:

Downton Abbey (my new obsession, out of this world good,)  Modern Family

A solid 2011, and hopefully a prosperous and exciting 2012 ahead!

Does this Manhattan townhouse look familiar to anyone?? It’s the home of Holly Golighly, and it’s for sale!  If I had $5.85 million dollars in the bank, I think I would make this my new home.
